MEXICO CITY ART RESIDENCY/MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
ABOUT
Mexico City has been a source for creativity for millions of people for hundreds of years. This residency provides you the opportunity to both experience this rich history and develop your own creativity.
LOCATION: The studio is positioned in the most optimum location at the heart of the city’s cultural centre. Each morning you will walk by Templo Mayor where you can acknowledge the vast mesoamarican history. The great works of the Mexican Mural Movement are within a 1-3 block walk. Over a dozen museums are only a few blocks away. The oldest art school in the Americas, Antigua Academia de San Carlos, is on the same block as the studio.
STUDIO: In a building that is over 400 years old, the studio the full time working space of Mark Vazquez-Mackay. The studio has three separate working spaces, a kitchenette, and bathroom. Each space is equipped with an easel, stool, working table, material cart, and studio lighting. Lots of natural light floods in from the large wooden windows. Floor space is 120sq’ and ceiling is 10’ high.
High-speed internet on site.
Your space will be secure and you will have the option to bring a padlock to secure it if you would like extra peace of mind.
ADDITIONAL SUPPORT: Your host is bilingual (English/Spanish) and with his partner, can help you navigate the city and culture. They will be able to help arrange all museum and cultural trips you would like to take. They both know the city well and the multiple ways to navigate it.
ACCOMMODATIONS: There are all levels of accommodation available depending on budget from hostels to Airbnb. Your accommodation cost will not be included in your residency. To be sure the information is up-to-date, options can be reviewed when you know the dates you would like to attend.
THE PROGRAM: What makes this program unique is the direct mentorship you will receive from professional artist Mark Vazquez-Mackay. Each morning will start with a 30 minute check-in to talk about where you are at and where you would like to move towards. After some insightful suggestions, you will have the rest of the day to work independently in your space.
You will have access to your studio space monday-friday, 10-6.

Space can be shared with other artists who you set up. Please inquire cost if space will be shared.
WHAT THE COST INCLUDES:
Physical access to the you studio and common areas (bathroom and kitchenette) during the week
30 minute consultation with Mark each day you are in the studio
Full support to help you navigate resources in the city such as food, supply stores, cultural centres, transit, and banks.
On-line meetings to help you prepare for the program.
Airport transportation.
