In my community consultations, I learnt that the queensland community valued their location in the city right next to Fish creek park. So, i researched the history of the reagin and was confronted with my own ignorance about how deep the history was. I thought that if it was new to me, the community might also be interested to know. Given that the histories were the first nations, I immediately called on my Blackfoot friend to help guid me on what is appropriate for a non-indigenous artist to be representing. I also had the opportunity to sit down with an elder and discuss the content of the project. After he shared with me the story of the creator, people, and buffalo, he gave me his blessing.
I recruited 3 ACAD students to help with the project. Additionally, the community came out on the first weekend to help letdown the paint and feel some ownership with the project.
